Baylor Football’s Clark Barrington Placed on Rimington Trophy Watch List
NEW YORK – Baylor senior offensive lineman Clark Barrington has been named to the 2023 Rimington Trophy Watch List, as announced Friday.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I college football. Barrington is one of 40 centers from across the country named to the preseason watch list, including eight from the Big 12.
A graduate transfer from BYU, Barrington joins the Bears after an All-America career with the Cougars. He started 40 games and played in 46 during his time in Provo, Utah, from 2019-22, including 37 consecutive starts to finish his undergraduate career. The 6-6, 308-pound center earned Second-Team All-America honors from Action Network and third-team honors from Pro Football Focus and Pro Football Network in 2021.
Already named a preseason all-conference honoree by multiple outlets, Barrington’s impact on the Baylor offensive line helped the Bears pick up preseason Offensive Line of the Year honors in the Big 12 by College Football Network. Barrington is the second Bear in as many seasons to be named to the Rimington Trophy watch list, after Jacob Gall earned a spot on the 2022 preseason list.
This year, the Trophy committee paired with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to identify its preseason list. PFF grades and additional data, along with nominations from each respective institution, created the 2023 watch list. Centers may be added throughout the 2023 season based on merit.
While more than a dozen All-America teams are selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses three prestigious teams to determine its winner: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, and Football Writers Association of America. The Rimington Trophy committee’s policy is to count all players that primarily play the center position, though they may be listed as guards or tackles on an All-America team.
The center with the most first-team votes will be determined the winner. In case of a tie, then the center with the most second-team votes will win. A majority vote by the Rimington Trophy Committee will serve as the next tiebreaker.
