30 for 30: #21 JaMycal Hasty

Running Back, JaMycal Hasty (5-8, 200) | Longview (TX) High School

— If you missed it, I already called my shot on Hasty leading Baylor in rushing in 2017 ahead of Terence Williams. While it's almost by default considering Williams will miss a couple of games due to injury, I believe Hasty has the makings of a number one back in the long term.

— Watch the video above and you will see that Hasty isn't at all like former Bear Lache Seastrunk, a player which Hasty has been compared to previously because of speed and size. Arguably Hasty's biggest fallback in high school was finding safeties to hit in the second level versus finding ways to make them miss.

— Hasty was a perfect match for Baylor's previous offense, a system that required the ball carrier to be quick to the line of scrimmage and get out in space. However, Hasty's physical running style should be a good match for any goal line situations as well. Will he run over a 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker in the hole? No, but a push is plenty.

— A frustration with Hasty following the Texas game where he fumbled close to the goal line with hopes to put the game away gave pause to the projections. Hasty will need to make sure to be clean with his security moving forward.

— Back to the Seastrunk comparison for a moment. Don't completely dismiss Hasty's shiftiness and raw speed on the field. You can expect some exciting plays from the sophomore throughout the course of the season. Does he have the breakaway talent of Seastrunk? That's still TBD, in my honest opinion.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
J Hasty looked good against Boise St. I hope he can approach William's power ability though.

Im not sure anyone has the breakaway potential of seastrunk. That guys was one in a billion in that category.

He must also stay healthy over the long haul.

Regarding the Texas game and the fumble. I don't blame Hasty at all. I blame the staff. Why would you pull a big back for a smaller one in a goal line situation? Especially if said big back was catching somewhat of a groove at that point in the game. Maybe my memory of it and the actual reality of the situation oppose each other, but I think I remember pointing this out during the game before the fumble happened.

There was a boat load of questionable staff decisions in that game; extremely questionable!

I agree Colt that he will lead the Bears in rushing. The staff seems to like him. I think he has that championship mindset that we need. 205 lbs of pure hell and fury.

That was a bad call. It was K Briles call. One of many by him in a game we should have won.

I'm looking for 1200 yds plus out of J Hasty this season.
