It wouldn't have mattered.

Grimes calls a reverse to a tight end and all 11 Utes are waiting on the telegraphed play. Game ends with another thud.

Baylor's defense needs a lot of work... that was very apparent in the first game. They did better against Utah, but still gave up yardage when they needed to stop it. The offense is putting up points, and the O line does need a lot of work, but the defense is not helping.

The offense put up 13 vs Utah… that's putting up points? Both units are trash right now

Yeah looking back I also think Baylor should get the ball on their 1 yard line. And no penalties. Only penalize the opponent because they're not cool. And Utes should have to wear Chuck Taylors to make up for they fact they run faster. In the spirit of fairness.

What Baylor SHOULD HAVE HAD is a Power 5 team stacked with starred recruits and coached by a raging competitor with high expectations that you only suit up for 1 reason.
You want the ball on the 1 yard line go put it there.

Whether it would have mattered or not, that was clear and obvious PI. It should have been called.

What Baylor had was a team good enough to win without ref incompetence interfering with the outcome.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

OR we were not secure in our game plan as reflected by the scoreboard. We rubbed their receivers too. It's not a conspiracy. The score reflects both the outcome and the preparation. That's how sports work.

There are no rules I'm aware of to determine whether a team earned a penalty through its preparation or execution. There are only rules that dictate what is and is not a penalty. And that was textbook PI. It should have been flagged. Period. End of story.

Almost the end of the story.

Refs are imperfect but they are also impartial.

There are no rules I'm aware of that would compel a coach and complicit player's to allow their opponent to score a touchdown in the final minutes of a game to expedite getting another possession.

Don't blame referees for this loss any more than the loss to Texas State or Air Force.

Now it's the end of the story. Don't stomp your feet, demand better. Trading from leading to losing in a game like that has zero to do with a call, we were simply not ready to finish the job. Finishing the job is what winners do.

The PI should have been called. But the previous 60 minutes of play was a bad performance due to poor preparation, poor coaching and play calling and poor performance by the players. The O is not good but the D was swiss cheese in the last 2 minutes of the game.

Something must have not been all that poor. We never trailed a top-15 team until at the very end of the game, and led for much of it. Was Texas State a flop. It certainly was, no question. We darn near lost to them in 2021. If the team had not improved from game 1 to game 2, we should have lost to Utah by at least 30 points, possibly more.

Considering the quality of the opponent, the O was not bad until Robertson rolled his ankle. Even then we hid it long enough to get the FG on the first drive of the second half then Utah figured out his running was nothing to worry about. Even with that we just missed a long TD pass by a couple of feet after Utah tied the game. And with starting with just 17 seconds, we got in position to tie the game on a pass of less than 25 yards. The D needed to stop two plays at the end and did not. But up until the offense went south in the third quarter, they had done remarkedly well, much better than I expected. Not good to lose the first two, but many of the comments I have read this week seem to be made under the assumption that the team played as poorly against Utah as they did against Texas State.

The inability to close out a game such as this against a quality opponent is disappointing for everybody But how many here predicted a tie game with less than a minute to play against Utah? We don't know how this season is going to turn out. It could be a 2021 or a 2022 or worse. But those results are not baked in because there are too many humans involved into how it turns out.

Like I tell my 9-10 year olds- the best way to deal w bad refs is don't get in a position to let them determine the outcome of the game
