Ashley Merrill Named to Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week
Baylor attacking midfielder Ashley Merrill was selected by Top Drawer Soccer for their national team of the week for women’s college soccer.
The senior scored four goals in the Bears’ two contests last week, highlighted by a four-minute hat trick against Abilene Christian last Sunday. Merrill also netted the Bears’ lone goal in their 2-1 loss to SMU last Thursday.
The hat trick was the fastest in Baylor program history and looked sure to earn Merrill weekly accolades. However, the competition in the Big 12 is fierce.
Texas star midfielder Lexi Missimo, who will face off with Merrill and the Bears tonight in Waco, netted a hat trick of her own last week against Stephen F. Austin as well as four assists.
That crazy performance earned her a spot alongside Merrill in the Top Drawer Soccer team of the week as well as the Big 12 Attacker of the Week award.
Now Merrill and her team will have a chance to earn the greatest prize, bragging rights from a head-to-head win.
Kickoff for the Bears and Longhorns is scheduled for 7 PM CST from Betty Lou Mays Field in Waco. The game will be streaming on ESPN+.
