Aranda's Call Sheet: The Talent Edition

While the Bears move on from past performances and focus currently on Texas, there was also some good discussion about the future this week. 

Here are three items of interest from Dave Aranda's Texas Week 1-on-1 with David Smoak. 

TALENT LEVEL

One thing noticeably absent through three games is explosiveness. It begs the question of how talented this team is when they're unable to control or hit big plays against the likes of Long Island or Texas State.

Obviously has been a big talent fall off under Aranda recruiting. We run an under exciting offense that skill position players are not interested in playing in. Our past recruiting classes are not positioning us to improve from the lower half of the Big 12. Hard to play without the players. Talent level way down from 21. Time to move on. Plenty of creative coaching available with Texas 7 on 7 in high gear. We need to scheme what the players want to play in.

Will not be surprised to finish not bowl eligible. Not surprise in be favored more than 2 or 4 more times this year.

Agreed unfortunately. Sad thing is Aranda is a nice person who respects people. Just not a great head coach, as is evidenced by the major recruiting drop off under his tenure.

And if you are one who relies solely on 247 to inform me that our recruiting rankings are fine, you need to dig deeper into the numbers.
