In The Web: What "They" Are Saying About Baylor in Week 4

It’s been hard to find anything positive about Baylor (1-2) as of late as the program is just kind of there with no pulse for outside consumption or interest. Despite snapping their six-game skid last week against a terrible Long Island squad 30-7, the offense lacked big play ability and was only sparked briefly by the play of freshman running back Dawson Pendergrass.

It’s one thing when people who have no connection to the program speak out against the current state of Baylor football, but it hits a little different when former Baylor greats are making comments of concern on social media.

Platt is just the latest in a long line of people who have voiced their opinions about the lethargic nature of the team and their glaring lack of enthusiasm or energy. Outside of a few young guys here and there, it’s not a good vibe in Waco.

Baylor made the list as one of the most disappointing teams so far this season according to Yahoo Sports, joining the likes of Alabama, Nebraska, Pitt, Texas Tech and more.

Baylor (1-2): Baylor won the Big 12 and Sugar Bowl in 2021. Since then, the Bears are just 7-9 overall. That includes a rough 1-2 start to this season — a season that fans hoped would be a bounce-back from an ugly 6-7 campaign in 2022 that concluded with four consecutive losses. However, Baylor laid an egg in Week 1, losing 42-31 at home to Texas State as a 27-point favorite. In Week 2, Baylor lost again. This time, the Bears blew a 13-3 lead and lost 20-13 to Utah by allowing two TDs in the final two minutes of regulation. Baylor at least got in the win column on Saturday, but it was an underwhelming 30-7 margin over Long Island, an FCS program that went 4-7 last year and already has losses to Ohio and Bryant this year.

The Bears continue to fluctuate around the bottom of the barrel in the Big 12 Power Rankings after three weeks of play. Here is a look at where Baylor stands heading into Saturday’s matchup against No. 3 Texas (3-0).

KFord Power Rankings
60 - Boise State > 1.312
61 - Fresno State > 1.230
62 - Arizona > 1.121
63 - South Alabama > 0.921
64 - Baylor > 0.812
65 - Nebraska > 0.512
66 - Purdue > -0.112
67 - Air Force > -0.430
68 - Indiana > -0.812
69 - Georgia Tech > -1.012
70 - Oklahoma State > -1.021

What are realistic expectations for the Bears with the Longhorns making the short trek north on I-35 Saturday for their final scheduled appearance inside of McLane Stadium? Ball don’t lie, and Texas has looked like a team that should do to Baylor what Georgia did to TCU in the National Championship last season.

The Bears appear to not have the talent to compete against Texas, but strange things are possible in college football. Here is a look at how the folks in the desert see this game unfolding.

Moneyline (ML): Texas -690 (bet $690 to win $100) | Baylor +480 (bet $100 to win $480)
Against the spread (ATS): Texas -14.5 (-105) | Baylor +14.5 (-115)
Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night and will be on ABC. As always, get the latest on Baylor Football from SicEm365.com and tune into our pregame show on the 365 Sports YouTube Channel or KWTX on local television in Central Texas!

I never put much faith in power rankings or any rankings this early in the season.

Michigan is ranked #2 on their victories over 3 cupcake opponents, East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green. And UNC is 15 positions behind them after beating Big10 Minnesota, SEC South Carolina and App State, the latter is probably the strongest of the 3. Rankings and even "power rankings" are popularity contests.

That said, I am fully confident Texas is better than Texas State and maybe even better than Air Force. Our best chance is heavy rotations because they are deep and they are in football shape.
Baylor boys better show up early or we'll lose players. I hope Aranda is completely a different coach than he has been so far in his career. We need him to be a grown man. Sic'em. Believe.

Yet also beneficial if we can see with understanding.
