Top 5 Prospect Tre Johnson Will Take an Official Visit to Baylor This Weekend

Branson (MO) Link Academy five-star guard Tre Johnson‍ will take his second official visit to Baylor over the weekend. Johnson is a consensus top five prospect in the class according to 247, On3, Rivals, and ESPN.

Alvin Brooks has been his lead recruiter during this process but make no mistake this has been a full staff effort to try to land one of the best prospects in the 2024 class.

He will play his final high school season at Link Academy after beginning his career at Lake Highlands High School in the Dallas area. Current Baylor Bear and top 10 player in the 2023 class, Ja’Kobe Walter, played his senior season at Link Academy as well.

Johnson averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game for Houston Hoops on the EYBL Circuit this spring. He shot 42% from the floor, 36% from three, and 80% from the free throw line.

During his junior season at Lake Highlands he averaged 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assist per game and was named Texas Mr. Basketball. He led Lake Highlands to its first state title since 1968 as he posted 29 points and eight rebounds against two-time state champion Beaumont United in the boys 6A state final.

As a sophomore he averaged 23.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game

The 6-foot-6 wing took a second official visit to Texas at the end of August as this appears to be a battle between the Longhorns and Bears. The two programs have appeared to separate themselves but of course others are still recruiting and there is also the option to go the G-League route as well.

Johnson cancelled his scheduled official visit to Alabama as well which provides even more confirmation that he has narrowed things down since releasing his top six in May. As of now, his only other scheduled official visit is to Arkansas in late October.

Any news on how the visit went? Man, hate that the game was not closer to keep the atmosphere going for at least 3 quarters.

I heard he had a good visit. We had Ish, Davion and Key there.

I wouldn't worry too much about the football blowout. He's here for the hoops and we absolutely own Texas there.

No doubt Texas NIL will be a factor.

This is why I feel like we have a good shot to land him he's not worried about NIL he wants to compete and win

Are these level of recruits looking at NIL as an insurance plan in case they get hurt, or are they literally buying insurance? Maybe both. I have to think they consider career injuries when playing only one year in college.

Yep, it's a bonus but not primary concern for top high school guys. Already recruiting at the same or higher level than anybody not named Duke, Uk. Nil does drive the portal though.
