Baylor Equestrian Ranked No. 7 in NCEA Preseason Poll
WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian has been ranked as the preseason No. 7 team in the country by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA), as announced Wednesday afternoon.
Following a trip to the NCEA quarterfinals as the No. 8 overall seed, the Bears return 13 of their 19 point-winners from the 2022-23 season, including All-American Madison Mitchell (Flat) and NCEA Co-Rider of the Year Dominika Silvestri (Flat). Seventh-year head coach Casie Maxwell welcomes 17 freshmen and a transfer into the fold.
BU finished 6-10 in its 2022-23 campaign and earned a third-place finish at the 2023 Big 12 Championship after defeating Fresno State in the consolation meet. Baylor picked up a historic 12 total Rider of the Month awards, the most in program history.
Third-year assistant coach Grace Bridges is joined by newcomer Lilly Ulrich to captain the Jumping Seat side. Fellow assistant Jessie Weisinger returns for her second year at the helm of Horsemanship. Noel Meadows has also joined the staff as the new Director of Operations. Maxwell continues to lead the Reining team and has guided the Bears to the postseason in all five of her eligible postseasons.
Baylor opens the season further down the Brazos at Texas A&M on Friday, Sept. 29. BU will begin a three-meet home slate on Friday, Oct. 6, against Auburn, followed by a pair of home contests against conference rivals Oklahoma State (Oct. 13) and Fresno State (Nov. 2).
