In The Web: What "They" Are Saying About Baylor in Week 6
The comeback that Baylor (2-3, 1-1) made on Saturday to defeat UCF 36-35 was absolutely incredible. Social media was a flurry of negativity, confusion and frustration for the first three quarters, but once the Bounce House began empty Baylor began to play.
As the Bears gained ground on the Knights, the narrative began to change on the internet. One national writer who was in attendance was Brett McMurphy of Action Network HQ. McMurphy was blown away by Baylor’s resiliency and was one of many who led a wave of positive publicity in the Bear’s direction.
One of the key contributors to Baylor’s success was freshman cornerback Caden Jenkins, whose interception and fumble recovery for a touchdown helped flip the script for the Bears in crunch time. Jenkins was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against UCF.
During this week’s edition of the Biggest Winners and Losers of Week 5 by Heartland College Sports, Baylor was named the Biggest Winner by Matthew Postins, while Dave Aranda was named the Biggest Winner according to Joe Tillery.
BIGGEST WINNER: DAVE ARANDA
Dave Aranda, you can now exhale. While Baylor fans had not completed a full turnaround on Dave Aranda following his struggles in 2022 and at the start of 2023, the air in Waco felt a little bit uncomfortable surrounding the football team. A 36-35 comeback win may not be a sustainable feat to accomplish on a weekly basis, but getting your quarterback healthy and proving that the team is headed in the right direction is a massive positive for the program.
Now Baylor will have to return home to McLane Stadium this week to face Texas Tech (2-3, 1-1), who has been hit-or-miss this season as well. The Bears handled the Red Raiders last season in Lubbock, but can they do it again this season and earn their first home victory of the season?
The folks in the desert are expecting this game to be a shootout of sorts with the point total sitting at 57.5 and currently have Baylor sitting at -1.
