30 for 30: #12 Ira Lewis

NT, Ira Lewis (6-3, 290) | Houston (TX) Lamar

— Coming to Baylor as a defensive end out of Lamar, Ira Lewis was undoubtedly going to move to the interior of the line. It was just going to take a little bit of time. Now a junior, Lewis has completely transformed his body to match that of a major college interior defensive lineman.

— As a sophomore, Lewis totaled 36 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks over the course of 13 games and six total starts. By comparison, former Bear Andrew Billings totaled 37 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks in 13 games (13 starts) for the Bears.

— In a fall-camp interview, Baylor head coach Matt Rhule expressed pleasure in the progress which Lewis had made throughout the offseason. If it's any indication on the progress he will make on Saturdays this fall, Lewis could be in for a big junior season for the Bears as the starting nose tackle.

— For now, Lewis is listed as a co-starter at the NT position along with sophomore Bravvion Roy.  If Lewis wants to win the battle against Roy he will need to show strength in rushing the passer on third downs but also to have the ability to stuff the run in early downs. Sounds like the basic for an interior lineman, but finding consistentcy.

Ira defeated the clone blocker then reached out and swept the clone QB to the ground with one swoop of his Bear arm!
