WACO, Texas – The No. 14 Baylor women’s basketball team returns to action and wraps up a five-game homestand this weekend when it hosts  Alcorn State on Sunday.

The stretch of home contests marks the second time in five seasons that the Bears have started their season with five straight games at home.

The contest is set for 2 p.m. and is available for streaming via Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and a live radio broadcast is also available for fans. Live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter and live stats. For links to follow along with each game, fans should visit the team’s schedule page onBaylorBears.com.

STARTING FIVE

In week three of the AP Top-25 Poll, Baylor jumped seven spots to No. 14 after its wins over Utah and Harvard. The climb marked the largest jump in the poll this week and the highest ranking for the Bears since finishing the 2021-22 season at No. 7.

The Bears were selected as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Team of the Week on Tuesday. The recognition marks the second-straight year and second time under the direction of head coach Nicki Collen the team has earned it.

In the 10-point win over Harvard on Sunday (Nov. 19), all five starters finished in double figures led by Aijha Blackwell’s 16 points.

With their 81 points against the Crimson, the Bears have scored 80-plus in three-straight games to start a season for just the 12th time in program history and first time under the direction of Collen. Additionally, in those 11 seasons, it is the first time that two of the three opponents in that stretch reached the postseason the year prior. – four-straight after scoring 120+ against McNeese.

The win over McNeese on Friday moved the Bears to 4-0 on the year marking the first time since the 2019-20 campaign that Baylor would start a season with four-straight wins.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Alcorn State is looking for its first win of the season, currently sitting at 0-3 to start the year. Sunday’s game marks the third contest in four games that the Lady Braves have faced a Power 5 opponent after starting the year at Mississippi State and Nebraska.

Nakia Cheatham leads Alcorn State offensively, averaging 8.0 points per game in a team-high 30.3 minutes per contest. Additionally, she has a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game.

How do you get the live radio broadcast? I was traveling when they played McNeese and they were broadcasting an NFL game on 1660. Thanks!

Another dominant win for Baylor

let me just say Jana is looking very good. She comes in and pushes the pace very well. She can hurt teams with a shorter bench with fatigue legs. Her passing has been well and she can shoot the ball. At least letting her have some goes when both Sarah and Jada need to be off the floor!!

Adding to this. Shes also looked pretty good defensively, she has not been letting players beat her on the drive, getting over in the driving lane. She had the most minutes today with 25, if she keep playing like this shell be good for us.

Yea jana has worked her butt off the last few games. She wants her spot. Her assist have been very good. Her and yaya have really impressed Me off the bench. Yaya with 16pts in 16 minutes.

it just goes to show how much depth we have on this team from top to bottom it can be anyone's night any night.

And for big games, like Oregon in a few days, multiple players will likely have a big game.

  • I think we will wear down a lot of back courts if they can't match up with these two coming of the bench or their bench will not be able to keep up with them.
  • Jada will get stronger running the point as the year goes on and Sarah is Sarah. You can make the same argument with our wings.
  • I expect CNC would like to have more size in the back court but these four will be very formitable at the 1 and the 2. In addition look for Bella to be the 6th player of the year and by midseason Fritz will not be far behind.
  • Aijha and Dre' are rebounding machines who will contribute at both ends of the court.
  • I believe Bartley will continue adjust to D1 ball and Kyla will keep growing. Lety will figure it out, hopefully sooner rather than later.
If we stay healthy we have a good chance to be a top ten team all year. I do wear glasses, don't think they are rose colored. I'd like to hear the board's thoughts on this.

i really do agree, I think Bella is going to be 6thayer of the year for sure.
The players on our team are in a lot of different roles and so it's all going to elevate.
I just think we still haven't seen the best DLB yet. Like the double machine she was last season. So add that to what we have is wild.
I think we have a guard for all situations.
Our post is small but it's so versatile it's hard to guard us. I think with past CNC teams we always get really good in february and i'm ready to see a super high level game from this team. A good one to start that off would be December 30th. We have the pieces to do big things and if you a
haven't seen this is anyone's season.

As Jim Haller says, once DLP's mid-range game becomes consistent, we saw signs of this late last year, she will be even more awesome.
