Baylor Quarterback Blake Shapen Enters Transfer Portal
Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen (RJr.) announced he was entering the transfer portal Monday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Shapen was the Bears' best player on offense and totaled 2,188 yards through the air, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions in eight starts in 2023.
Prior to this fall, Shapen helped lead Baylor to its third Big 12 Championship in 2021, where he started in place of an injured Gerry Bohannon against No. 5 Oklahoma State in the conference title game. In 2022, Shapen totaled 2,602 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while going 6-7 in his first year as the starting quarterback.
Shapen was a three-star recruit out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana, and chose Baylor over USC and Arizona State.
With the dismissal of offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, Baylor is expected to hire a new offensive coordinator within the next week.
