Someone needs to send Phil the latest Sec Shorts clip. Plenty of reasons why FSU should have made it.

Baylor won a bowl game without a QB. The Ravens won a SuperBowl without a QB (sorry Trent).....Defense can win championships...

I does not matter if they "got it right" or not. An "invitational tournament" does not a national championship make.

It's disingenuous to name it the CFP

Should be named the CFI - College Football Invitational, because that is what it is.

Always been t.v. political. The 4 Team format was a mistake. 8 or 12 more interesting and profitable for ad revenue

12 is still not enough and is set up to give the top 4 teams chosen by the committee will have a bye to the quarter finals. The 12 team format is so strange the it can only mean there is still a desire to have the committee's decision on rankings have more weight than the results on the field.

You could expand it to 48 teams and it's still going to distill down to 2-3 SEC teams and 1-2 Big10 teams and 1 ACC or Big12 team every other year until PAC12 (RIP) and ACC and Big12 do better, recruit better, coach better. FSU got left out because they were not good enough on offense to move the ball against freaking Louisville and not good enough on defense to keep Louisville completely out of the game. And they only had 1 significant win in the eyes of the committee and that was in week 1.
Y'all need to let it go. It's apparently haunting you that Texas got in.
If it really matters Do Better next year. There's at least 5 SEC teams and at least 3 Big10 and 2 PAC12 teams who'd make light work of FSU. That's why they aren't in.
Let’s Go!

I do not doubt the teams were some of the best and it does not bother me that UT got in. I have a philosophical issue with sports that are not decided on the field, by the players. I do not care for gymnastics or ski jumping (as examples) because the winners are chosen by judges, like in a beauty contest. Winning is totally subjective.

Regardless of whether the teams selected are the 4 best (they may be), they are still selected and the champion is substantively chosen subjectively.

The basketball tourney has a selection committee, but there are also so many auto qualifiers that the selection committee's impact is reduced (even though not eliminated). Arguments are at the edges, this team is left out and another low seed team is in. Or, this one shouldn't have been a number 1 seed. Nobody disputes the eventual champion because the outcome is substantially settled on the court. No undefeated P5 conference champion has been denied a chance to at least compete for the title.

A 12 team tournament will significantly reduce the selection committee's impact on the tourney, but they should have done 16 to eliminate the byes. They need to get to 32. I think that's a number that will maximize revenue and give every viable team a chance. Over a 5 game stretch we'd also get some of those wonderful upsets. It would be a fascinating second season that would produce great piles of cash.
