December 12, 2023

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Baylor volleyball had three student-athletes earn Academic All-District honors, announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators.

Averi Carlson, Elise McGhee and Allie Sczech were named as recipients by CSC. The Academic All-District Volleyball Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance in the classroom and on the court.

The three Bears are among 33 Big 12 student-athletes awarded, including BYU (3), UCF (4), Cincinnati (4), Houston (3), Iowa State (4), Kansas State (2), Oklahoma (1), Texas (3), Texas Tech (3) and West Virginia (3).

Carlson, BU’s starting setter, is a Communications student with minors in American Sign Language and Business Administration. The sophomore dished out 1,188 assists on the season with 247 digs and 30 blocks. She’s just over 20 assists away from entering Baylor’s top-10 in career assists.

McGhee, a junior out of San Antonio, Texas, is majoring in Health Science Studies with a minor in Biochemistry. This is the second All-District selection in the outside hitter’s career. She led the Bears on the season with 412 overall kills at a clip of 3.78 kills per set, while accumulating 33 service aces.

Sczech, an opposite hitter, is majoring in Journalism with a minor in Corporate Communication in her sophomore year. The native of Sugar Land, Texas, had 256 kills, seven aces and was third on the team in total blocks with 81.

Carlson and McGhee were selected as being eligible for Academic All-America honors from CSC. First-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced on Jan. 9, 2024.
