Baylor Softball’s Govan Named Preseason All-Big 12
IRVING, Texas – Baylor Softball’s Shaylon Govan was named to the 2024 Preseason All-Big 12 softball team, announced Thursday by the conference office.
Govan, a junior, received All-Big 12 First Team honors at the end of last season after hitting .369 and setting Baylor single-season records in walks (47) and sacrifice flies (7). She led the Big 12 last season in walks, while holding a .513 on-base percentage and a 1.194 OPS.
In her first season with the Bears, Govan also led the Bears in home runs with 11, becoming the first Bear to reach double-digit home runs since the 2019 season. Six of her 11 home runs on the season were multi-run blasts. She was also named a unanimous All-Big 12 first-team member and was an All-Region first-team section. For her record season with the Bears, she was named the 11th All-American in Baylor softball history, picking up NFCA All-America second-team honors.
This marks Govan’s first preseason honor of her career.
The Bears will open the 2024 season on Feb. 9 at home against Tennessee for a three-game series.
