No. 17 Baylor Softball Completes Sweep Over Morgan State
WACO, Texas – No. 17 Baylor Softball defeated Morgan State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium to complete the three-game series sweep.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears fell behind to start the weekend finale, after Morgan State singled to start the game and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice bunt.
With the 1-0 deficit, Emily Hott took a four-pitch walk to give the Bears their first baserunner of the day before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. With Hott on third after a wild pitch, Shaylor Govan roped a stand-up double into left-center field to tie the game, 1-1.
Lexie Warncke picked up her first start in the circle and retired Morgan State in order in the second inning after picking up back-to-back strikeouts.
With the game knotted at one run apiece, Ashlyn Wachtendorf singled to lead off the bottom of the third inning before she reached second on a fly out to foul territory in left field. With a runner on second, Sydney Collazos hit a single to right center to score Wachtendorf and give the Bears the 2-1 advantage.
Allowing one baserunner in the top of the fourth, Collazos quickly erased the threat by picking off the runner at first.
The Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth, with Watson beating out a throw for the infield single to get on base. Presleigh Pilon then reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second to put a runner in scoring position for the Bears. A single to right field, off the bat of Leah Cran, brought home the Bears’ third and final run of the game, as Pilon slid under the tag at home plate and was deemed safe.
Baylor was able to keep Morgan State off the board for the rest of the game, to take the 3-1 victory.
