The No. 5 Bears will face No. 12 Texas Tech on Friday at 11:00 a.m. after the Lady Raiders defeated No. 13 Houston 74-60 in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament.

This will be Baylor’s first game of the tournament; their No. 5 seed earned them a first-round bye. 

In Tech’s victory over Houston, they utilized three double-figure scorers, with Jasmine Shavers leading the pack with 29 points. 

When Texas Tech came to Waco on February 18th, the Bears dismantled them in a 61-32 win, which was the Bears’ best defensive performance of the year. This was also the game where Baylor retired Brittney Griner’s jersey, a nice source of inspiration for this year’s squad. 

Shavers, who led TT with 29 points in the first round, was held to just five points in 31 minutes of play when Tech was in Waco. 

Baylor’s depth will be a key factor in their matchup against Tech. The Lady Raider’s Bench only contributed eight points in their victory over Houston. It is not uncommon to see Baylor’s bench put up 20 or 30 points, and you can almost guarantee at least 10 from them.
