No. 1 Baylor A&T Defeats No. 4 Gannon on Senior Night

WACO, Texas – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 4 Gannon on Saturday at the Ferrell Center to close out the home schedule, 278.715 to 275.555.

The Bears (6-0) beat the Knights (6-1) by 3.16 points for the win on Senior Night.

The Bears increase their winning streak to 33 meets, dating back to March 27, 2021. It was also head coach Felecia Mulkey’s 90th Baylor win.

THE RUNDOWN

Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.35. A score of 9.75 was garnered in Acro, 9.80 in Pyramid, 9.85 in Toss and an 8.95 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 38.35 to Gannon’s 37.80 score.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.85 in Heat 1 (5-Element), 9.60 in Heat 2 (6-Element) and 9.85 in Heat 3 (7-Element) of Acro to total 29.30 for the event. The Knights had scores of 9.70, 9.10 and 9.80 respectively, for a total of 28.60. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.650 to Gannon’s 66.400.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.90 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned an 8.60, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.90. With the event scoring a 28.40, the running total was updated to 96.050 for Baylor. Gannon totaled 29.50 for the event and had a score of 95.90 going into halftime, the Bears up by .15 points.

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.70, 9.60 and 9.70, respectively, to total 29.00 for the event. The Knights scored a 9.70, 9.30 and 9.55, respectively, to total 124.450. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 125.050 to Gannon’s 124.450.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with Emily Bott (FR) and Kristen McCain (SR) scored a 9.25. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Payton Washington, Rakel Jeffries and Aliyah Kaloostian scored a 9.4. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Aliyah Thomas, Charlyze Hemby, Dailyn Hopkins, and Emi Nelson score an 8.80. The Aerial pass from Bott earned a 9.875, Washington in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.925, and McCain in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.775. The Bears’ total came to 57.025 for the event, while the Knights scored a 55.275. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 182.075 to 179.725 from Gannon.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 96.640 while Gannon earned a 95.830, bringing the meet score to a total of 278.715 to 275.555, BU taking the win.
