Coppell (TX) High School 2025 quarterback Edward Griffin‍ has committed to Baylor following his unofficial visit on Thursday. He becomes commit No. 8 in the 2025 recruiting class.

BAYLOR 2025 RECRUITING COMMITMENT LIST

“Enjoyed visiting Coach Dave Aranda and the rest of the coaching staff,” he said. “The culture is a perfect fit. Looking forward to getting back on campus.”

Griffin was the first offer Jake Spavital sent out after losing longtime commit Adam Schobel to Oklahoma State a month ago. Griffin immediately became the priority for the staff in the 2025 class which led to his offer on May 10th.

The Unanimous Overall District 6-6A MVP helped lead Coppell to a 12-1 record this past season. He completed 74% of his passes for 3,556 yards and 48 touchdowns with just three interceptions.

Edward Griffin impressed at the Elite 11 Regional this spring.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect has put together a really strong 7-on-7 season and exceled at the Elite 11 Regional in March. He won the Pannini Accuracy Challenge at the Elite 11 Regional by three points as he solidified himsef as a top performer at the event.

Currently he holds offers from Marshall, UTSA, UTEP, North Texas, and McNeese State.

Griffin is an unranked prospect by all national sites at the moment but that should change after his impressive spring and commitment to Baylor.

Hopefully Spav coaches him up to a higher level than Shawn Bell would have. Plus ya hope first that he actually signs and then sticks around beyond year one.

Bring on the hate, but this is another quarterback commit we've taken where we are the only P5 offer. However, I will say in his defense that he has put up big stats against good competition. he looks really, really wiry in a couple photos I've seen of him, but those may have been older photos, and it's certainly possible that he's put on weight

Hate? Little much don't you think, but ok.

What do you have to say other than that? I sense that you have something hateful you want to say…

After Novosad and Schobel it's hard to really get excited or to think anything will come out of this. Very kind of us to target A&M's next quarterback though. I'm sure they appreciate it.

I obviously don't have a premium subscription, but I'm guessing that they are saying that this guy is just as good if not better than those two guys

Enjoying Baylor softball's 4-2 lead over Gators. I'll get back to you if I can think of something that fits your expectations of (((hate)))

Cool, he's had some success, may or may not sign with us, may or may not ever play for us after he signs, may or man not stay healthy, may or may not develop and improve, and may or may not transfer. If he gets really good, then he'll almost certainly not sign or will transfer.

Isn't college football fun in 2024?

That enough hate?

Throws darts across the field. Soft touch on the long balls. Was a little short of a few of his long throws but receivers bailed him out. Might want to look at his receivers!

He only had three interceptions but threw some 50-50 balls that his receivers made great catches on. He looks much better than a mid-three star quarterback.

Unranked prospect.

Peeps, we now compete with the likes of Marshall, UTSA, UTEP, North Texas, and McNeese State. Thanks to million-dollar man Mack Rhoades!

He's a 3* at 247 like the overwhelming majority of other QBs under Briles, Rhule, and Aranda. Also, the offer list isn't at its final stage, so there is no real takeaway there - although it would be interesting if a big name school offered and he took their offer so that we could all hear from certain posters about how great of a player he was and it was a shame that we couldn't hold on to him despite them criticizing him now.

Well, fact is, I don't really trust Aranda's evaluation or development of quarterback talent. Yes, I know we have a different quarterback coach/coordinator which was much needed. But here's our record the last few years with quarterbacks. Someone can chime in if they think of something else:

Charlie Brewer - high floor/low ceiling quarterback, injury prone, alright as long as he could be a game manager

Blake Shapen - See: Charlie Brewer. Better arm than Brewer but worse pocket presence/short range accuracy. Unlike with Brewer, didn't have an elite defense the last two years to support him

Jacob Zeno - highly recruited player that was either a bust or not developed properly depending on your viewpoint. Either way, falls on the coaches for recruiting a bust or not developing

Kyron Drones - same as above

Bohanon - Collin Klein type quarterback. Big, good athlete, limited as a passer. Great option if you have a great run game and defense to allow him to be a game manager. His talent was probably developed about as well as you could expect, but Dave never should have told him to hit the road after the 2021 season.

So ultimately, we take these recruits with very few offers hoping that they'll get more offers which will prove that other coaches are seeing the things that our coaches are, but the recruits may not pan out which makes you wonder whether they're busts. I do have more faith in Spavital as a developer of quarterbacks than I ever did Shawn Bell

People doubted Novasad and then Oregon backed up the money truck to take him away from us. It's recruiting in 2024 - nothing matters until the kid puts on a helmet and lines up behind the center on gameday.

Why the hate - it's not like the QB position is the most important spot on the field....Championship teams are built from the kicking game...

Nothing would have come from Zeno anyway. Off the charts physical talent, but immaturity issues galore. He's done nothing at UAB last I checked.

What happened with Drones was football malpractice. I can't believe we kept Shapen on the field with diminishing results with a clearly superior talent sitting on the bench. It's soul crushing watching him come to life at VT. If only we had a HC who knew how to handle a QB room.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Drones develops in 2024, as (1) 2023 Virginia Tech only defeated 2 bowl eligible P5s (Boston College and Syracuse - both programs that will have new HCs for the 2024 season) and 1 bowl eligible G5 (Old Dominion) in the regular season and (2) Drones was outside the top 60 college QBs in terms of QBR in 2023.

Down play it all you want, but the light bulb was going on near the end of the season. This is from their bowl game last season. Drones took over the game in a heavy downpour.

It's unclear what that is intended to show, as Tulane was pass dominant all season and their (drafted) QB sat that out during a game with a "heavy downpour". If the intent is to show that Drones is one of the better running QBs in FBS and that he would generally find success against mid-range (recruiting wise) programs if those programs are forced to run due to weather, we would certainly agree, however, his performances across the 2023 season indicate that what he turned in in the bowl game is not something that he could do outside of a fairly specific scenario.

He's still better than Sawyer Robertson though.

I bet you guys said the same thing about Schobel. I specifically remember that thread... You cant fudge the numbers he put up, plain and simple. 48 TDs to 3 INT in Texas 6A ball.
