Update: Baylor Baseball to Hire Sean Snedeker as Pitching Coach
Baylor baseball is set to hire Sean Snedeker as its new pitching coach, per a Baylor Athletics press release.
Snedeker has over 30 years of coaching experience and spent the last seven seasons as the pitching coach under Will Davis at Lamar. During his time at the collegiate level, Snedeker has produced 38 MLB draft picks, five All-Americans, five conference pitchers of the year and 29 all-conference selections.
In 2024 with the Cardinals, Lamar led the Southland Conference in virtually every major pitching category, boasting the lowest earned run average (3.79) and batting average against (.228) by a wide margin. Snedeker’s pitching staff has led the league in ERA in each of the last four seasons.
Lamar had the second-lowest ERA (3.79) in the country this season and the sixth-lowest (3.96) in 2023. Snedeker has guided his pitching staff into the top 10 nationally in ERA at all three collegiate stops – Lamar, Oral Roberts and Duke.
Prior to Lamar, Snedeker spent six seasons as Oral Roberts's pitching coach and held a similar role at Duke before that. In the professional coaching ranks, the former Texas A&M standout spent 12 years in the Chicago White Sox organization and one season within the Los Angeles Dodgers system.
In back-to-back years, Baylor’s pitching staff has been near the bottom of the Big 12 in almost every category. Snedeker and head coach Mitch Thompson will be tasked with navigating the transfer portal this offseason and retaining the key talent on the roster, most notably all-conference lefty Ethan Calder.
The Bears Friday night starter, Mason Marriott, will test the MLB Draft waters this summer; if he returns, it would be a substantial boost to Thompson’s 2025 roster. Incoming freshman Brayden Bergman is a high-profile recruit who can hit the mid-to-upper 90s on his fastball; whether he chooses to go to college or play professionally will also be something to monitor.
