Baylor Offensive Lineman Kurt Danneker Medically Retires

Baylor offensive lineman Kurt Danneker has medically retired from football after transferring from Ohio and enrolling in the program for just six months, according to a post on his social media.

He committed to Baylor in January and was set to compete in spring football practices before an injury on the first day of camp.

The 6-foot-4, 332-pound prospect was set to play a starting role at guard for the Bears during the 2024 season. He started 28 games at left guard for the Bobcats in his career. He played 884 snaps in 2023 and graded out as the No. 23 rated guard according to PFF, including finishing 20th in run blocking and 95th in pass blocking. His experience, talent, size, and fit in the offensive scheme will be missed.

Baylor addressed his loss by adding Chattanooga offensive lineman Colin Truett in June once it became clear that Danneker was not going to play this season. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound prospect is a former Freshman All-American and a two-time all-conference selection during his time at Chattanooga.

The staff also added Montana State’s Omar Aigbedion, Texas A&M’s Colton Thomasson, and South Carolina’s Sidney Fugar during the transfer portal window as they looked to solidify things up front.

Man... He is one of the transfers I was most excited about. That stinks. Best of luck to him.

Truly sad for the guy. But I hope he got his NIL money in advance?

I wish him well. Hate to hear of anyone struggling with injury.

A thin OL gets thinner and we haven't even started the season yet. Yikes.

Why Celebrate that? He didn't contribute to the team - - those funds could be used for a replacement or an upgrade...

Lower your expectations for the turnaround we've been told is coming.

Sorry for the player. Tough break.

As for the team, this to me is a positive in terms of roster management. This is what Bama does, if a player can't contribute, medically retire and honor scholarship. Let him continue to be part of the team in a support role or when he Graduates maybe GA or QC. Free up the roster spot.

Sounds cold, but if we are going to compete you have to have decisions like this. Helps if the player understands and is willing.
