Red Oak (TX) High School 2025 wide receiver Taz Williams‍ has committed to Baylor over Penn State, Texas A&M, SMU, and Michigan. He becomes the 16th commit in the 2025 class and the fourth wide receiver, joining Ashton Jones‍, Chase Collier‍, and Jacorey Watson‍.

BAYLOR 2025 RECRUITING COMMITMENT LIST

Williams took official visits to SMU, Penn State, Michigan, and Texas A&M. He did not take one to Baylor, but there was renewed interest in the program after his best friend Kamauryn Morgan‍ gave his pledge to the Bears on July 7th.

Williams immediately got in contact with the staff after Morgan’s commitment and scheduled an official visit for July 29th, which was the first sign of significant interest heading into his decision.

Running backs coach Khenon Hall and wide receivers coach Dallas Baker played a major role in securing the commitment from the top 300 national prospect.

“Coach Khenon Hall is working hard to get the recruits in and show them Baylor is on the rise and that they just had a bad year last year,” he said following his spring visit. “Dallas Baker is a players coach for sure. He has won on all levels and is a champion. He has a ton of experience to share on and off the field. Coach Khenon Hall and Coach Dallas Baker are being real and honest. They really care about their players.”

Williams visited in February and was impressed with the staff, campus, and the new offensive scheme Baylor is implementing with Jake Spavital.

“Getting a new offense and a new offensive coordinator in Coach Jake Spavital, he has so much experience scoring and moving the ball,” Williams said following his visit. “This year, they will be way more explosive. The new offense will attract a lot more recruits.”

The 6-foot-0, 181-pound prospect posted 1,251 yards and 14 touchdowns on 80 receptions this past season. As a sophomore, he totaled 582 yards and five touchdowns.

Williams holds one of the most impressive offer lists in the nation, with 50 offers from schools all over the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, Texas, TCU, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, USC, and Georgia.

Currently, he is rated as a high three-star or low four-star on every national site. His highest ranking is on Rivals as they have him as a four-star and top 150 national prospect in the 2025 class.

Baylor jumps to No. 33 in the 247 Composite Team Rankings following Williams's commitment.

Yippee! I'm eager to see him in a year, and to see this fall what Spavital does for our offense!

I love this description about Taz' announcement, from one of the news stories:

"Baylor entered the picture late, as Williams announced June 4 that he would be choosing between Texas A&M, Michigan, SMU and Penn State. Williams even had hats for those four schools on the table in front of him Saturday before pulling out a Baylor hat from under the table and putting it on."

Nittany Lions fans were especially shocked. They expected him to choose Penn State, and were all set to welcome him by posting this picture:

And there was this lead-up post, which didn't mention including Baylor:

I also love the graphics that illustrated the 50+ other schools who wanted Taz:

I know the money is the main thing....but I also wonder if having an OC that runs an uptempo offense also made a difference.

If the money were the same and Grimes were still here I wonder if this still happens.

If Grimes were still here, the money probably would not be.

It's more than the money. It's the story and the story teller. It's changed.

I hope we get a second chance to tell the story to DJ Lagway.
