Argyle (TX) Liberty Christian 2026 quarterback Quinn Murphy‍ announced his verbal commitment to Baylor on Thursday afternoon. Murphy becomes commit No. 3 in the 2026 class joining running backs Ryelan Morris‍ and Davis Penn‍.

BAYLOR 2026 RECRUITING COMMITMENT LIST

“My number one thing is the quarterback and the offensive coordinator working together,” Murphy said. “Coach Jake Spavital fills that role perfectly for me. The day he moved into his office at Baylor, he offered me three hours later. That was his first move he made as an offensive coordinator, and I will never forget that. That made a huge impact on me in my recruitment.”

While at Austin (TX) Regents High School, Murphy threw for 3,030 yards and 52 touchdowns with just eight interceptions while completing 70% of his passes. He also ran for 242 yards and five touchdowns during his sophomore campaign.

As a freshman, he threw for 2,406 yards and 33 touchdowns, with just three interceptions and completed 67% of his passes.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect chose Baylor over offers from Miami, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Houston, Louisville, Michigan, NC State, Missouri, UCF, UTSA and SMU, among others

Murphy is rated as a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 16 quarterback in the nation according to Rivals. Both 247 and On3 rate him as a three-star prospect.

Baylor’s 2026 class is now ranked No. 12 in the 247 Composite Rankings.

At some point you gotta get over the cheater and learn to love again.

We're clearly in a different situation than we were before. We really need a positive season this year though even if it's not the best. Just need to show a positive trajectory and pay the players and we'll be good. Really need to get lineman now though.

Aranda needs to get off the hot seat before I start getting optimistic about even the 2025 class let alone '26. If we put in another stinker this year, that staff is gone and so is that class.

Once it's reasonable to think Aranda will be here in 2025 and beyond, then I'll start perking up.

What's interesting is that after reading the articles from the last several commits that we've received during this recent recruiting run we've been on, I can't remember a single interview where a kid mentioned Aranda as having stood out as an X-factor in their commitment. I've seen a lot of mentions of Spavital, Khenon Hall, NIL, other position coaches, or even other players. But very few mentions of Aranda.

HC's never lead individual recruiting efforts. It's always been like that. They'll set priorities, go on in-home visits and host during campus visits but it's the coordinators and position coaches that develop the relationships and check in via text and on social. Every program operates this way.

Aranda has gotten a few shout-outs from recruits but not for relationship reasons, just for the culture he's built and what's going on at Baylor generally.

Me? I believe Lagway will be out QB on 2026. Transfer portal.

I think this uptick in recruits will give him an extra year or two unless we lose to tarleton state, that may be a breaking point.

If only, dreams could come true, funny enough in the new NCAA 25 game Lagway got in the transfer portal and I landed him and went to the national championship with him. Lol as a side note it was also funny that Gerry Bohanon won the Heisman in the first season somehow in my game as well.

We did offer him decent NIL money shortly before he flipped his commitment. The sad truth is that it really wasn't about the money, it was about the fact that he took a look at that offense under Grimes and where it was trending and decided that he would be better off at Oregon

Which I find amusing, since it's becoming apparent that he'll only ever see the field in mop up time blow outs.

Same happened in mine with Lagway, but he went to TCU instead, smh. Wildly enough, Micah Hudson also hit the portal the same year... and also went to TCU. Moral of the story if I can't land those two of all players is that I should not get into recruiting.

There isn't any school outbidding Oregon right now. If they want you, they can pay. Phil Knight said as much that he wants to see them win a natty before he dies and he's all in.
