Ten Things: Baylor Takes on Tarleton

Baylor hosts Tarleton to start the season. Here are at least ten things seen during the game:

  1. The offense is fun and fast, with quarterback Dequan Finn (6Sr.) behind center.
  2. Texas State transfer wide receiver Ashtyn Hawkins (5Sr.) showed off his skills with an incredibly athletic touchdown grab.
  3. My breakout player before the season was linebacker Keaton Thomas (RSo.), and he flashed with an early pick-six.
  4. This is the mismatch many of us expected and predicted. Let's get reps for the backups and gel as a team.
  5. The defense hung tough today but needs to tighten up at times, particularly toward the end of the first half.
  6. Finn gives the offense a different dimension with his legs and extending plays, as opposed to last year’s starter, Blake Shapen.
  7. Tight end Michael Trigg (RJr.) is another weapon starting to show on the field. Wide receiver Jadon Porter (Fr.) looks un-freshmanlike.
  8. The defense missed defensive lineman Jackie Marshall (RJr.) badly last year.
  9. The offensive line has had some issues, but for the first game, as a unit, they kept Finn clean and opened some holes inside. There are still issues to fix, but they will be seen on film and corrected.
  10. The defensive line has controlled the line of scrimmage, unlike last year. Overall, the defense also seems to be flying around much more.
  11. Good win, plenty to work on in film study.
  12. Get ready for Salt Lake.
