Baylor Men’s Tennis NCAA Championship Run Falls in Sweet 16
WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis No. 2 seed duo of Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinovic put up a fight against the Texas duo of Timo Legout and Lucas Brown but couldn’t overcome the Longhorns in a 6(7)-7, 6-4, 10-5 loss in the Round of 16.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears duo faced off against the Longhorns on their home courts at the Hurd Tennis Center in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Individual Championships. Brostrom Poulsen and Miladinovic started out strong, coming back from being down 5-4 in the first set to forcing a tie breaker. The Bears came away victorious in the first, 7-6(7), fueled by fans and staff support around them.
The Longhorns responded in the second, taking the lead 6-4 after Baylor held tied the majority of the set. In the third set tie breaker, Baylor fell quickly 4-1 but battled back to stay in the match at 4-4. However, Texas took the momentum and came away 10-5 to advance to the Elite Eight.
In the Round of 32 in doubles, 5-8 seed Devin Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz were upset by UCLA’s Aadarsh Tripathi and Alexander Hoogmartens, 6-3, 7-6(3). In singles, Badenhorst couldn’t hold on against Wake Forest’s 9-16 seed Dhakshineswar Suresh, 6-4, 6-2.
To open the tournament in the Round of 64 in singles, Badenhorst defeated Martin Borisiouk of NC State 6-4, 7-6(7) to advance while Brostrom Poulsen battled against Top Nidunjianzan of Princeton but couldn’t come away victorious, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
