Safety Devin Lemear to Forego Final Year of Eligibility, Leaves Baylor Football

Lemear was a three-year starter for the Bears and was seventh on the team in total tackles (29) this season. His lone interception came on Nov. 23 in the win over Houston.

Safety Devin Lemear has left the Baylor Football team and will forego his final redshirt senior year of eligibility in 2025, SicEm365 has learned.

Lemear was a three-year starter for the Bears and was seventh on the team in total tackles (29) this season. His lone interception came on Nov. 23 in the win over Houston.

As a redshirt freshman in 2022, Lemear was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and received votes for Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. The former three-star recruit tallied 126 tackles in his Baylor career.

Lemear was celebrated on Baylor’s Senior Day matchup against Kansas on Nov. 30.

Kind of strange to step away in this day and age of $cholar-athletes. Even if he was just good for a backup role, it makes me wonder if something else isn't at play.

Disappointing. I feel like he was great depth even if he wasn't necessarily going to start, even though the idea of being a starter versus a non-starter has a lot of gray area in between these days

Did he deal with some nagging injuries the past couple of years? Might've gotten his degree (or is close) and said farewell to football.

Why would anyone make a statement like this? He was a Baylor Bear. He worked for four years. Many times in 100 degree weather. He was probably hurt several times. He rooted for his teammates. He is a Baylor graduate. I support our team and players.
