Baylor Sophomore OL Alvin Ebosele To Enter Transfer Portal | Report

December 4, 2024

Baylor offensive lineman Alvin Ebosele (RSo.) entered the transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Ebosele started over 14 games in his Baylor career and split time with Kaden Sieracki (RSo.) at left tackle earlier in the season but was replaced in favor of South Carolina transfer Sidney Fugar (RJr.). Ebosele was working on the interior of the offensive line to end the 2024 season.

The Coppell native redshirted the 2022 season and started 11 games in 2023. Last fall, PFF graded him as the sixth-highest freshman offensive lineman in the Big 12.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound prospect will be a coveted player in the transfer portal but would have had to compete for a starting job at Baylor next season had he returned.

The Bears are slated to bring back four starters along the offensive line — Fugar, left guard Ryan Lengyel (RJr.), center Coleton Price (RSo.) and right guard Omar Aigbedion (Jr.).

Not good for depth at the very least

He got beat out by Fugar and wasn't going to be getting that job back any time soon. I wish him well at his next stop, but he didn't do much here worth missing.

I think we will miss him if we lose an offensive lineman or two to injury. Also known as, it's good to have depth

In the portal era, no team keeps players as depth that could be playing elsewhere. And if we're going to lose an offensive lineman, Ebosele may top my list as the most expendable. He's played a lot and has never been good.

I genuinely wish him luck and success, but I'm not going to act like this is a significant loss. Any upperclassman we picked up in the portal would likely be better equipped to contribute.

Kinda have to wonder how he can compete for a starting tackle position anywhere if he doesn't want to at BU next season. The path of least resistance always beckons, I guess. Not trying to throw shade. It's a legitimate question. Other issues, maybe?

I don't think it's other issues. He wants to play, and he'll start the season as a backup if he stays. He could go to a G5 school (or a larger school that needs OL help) and start right away.

The right tackle job will open up with Bearington graduating. But I'd imagine we'll go back to the portal for a starting candidate and/or depth.

Well, decent offensive linemen do not grow on trees. I hope we hold onto the rest. Behind quarterback, OL is the one position I hate to lose. At least he wasn't starting.

He had flashes, but was inconsistent. The thing to remember is he was only a sophomore, and OL take about 3 or 4 years to really mature. He wants to be a starting LT and he will probably be a good one in a year or two. BU will need to find at least two good OL in the portal for depth.

We signed 2 OL this year, so we probably have good depth. I'm all about competing but if you think you don't have a chance then I could see why you would transfer, otherwise compete and prove you should start. Players get paid now. This is your job

I suspect they are also expecting to pick up some OL help in the portal.

I don't want to dump on the kid, but there's a reason he was beaten out ... and a reason our offensive line did a 180 after he was.

That doesn't mean he can't be a good player elsewhere, but it wasn't clicking for him here.

I think this is a fair point, and I would have been happy for him to stay and develop. But that's not modern college football unfortunately.

I hope things click for him at his next stop. He looks like a million bucks and supposedly has a lot of tools. But he's struggled mightily in two different offenses at Baylor. From his perspective and ours, it's probably time for a change of scenery.

I don't begrudge him that decision. I'm just also not going to lose sleep over losing a guy who was a prominent part of two utterly deficient offensive lines the two years he played for us. Particularly when the second of those lines went from deficient to a strength almost overnight when he was replaced at LT. I know that wasn't the only reason, but the upgrade from Ebosele to Fugar has been enormous ... especially in terms of consistency.
