WACO, Texas – The Baylor volleyball program enters the postseason for the 13th time overall on Thursday, facing Wofford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
BU, No. 16 in the latest AVCA Coach’s Poll, will face off with the Terriers at 7 p.m. CT in Waco at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (22-7), the No. 4 regional seed and 15th national seed, are on their ninth-straight tournament run, all coming under head coach Ryan McGuyre. With him at the helm, BU is 13-8 in the tournament, while being 16-12 in program history.
This season’s hosting of the first and second rounds marks the fifth time in eight years that Baylor has hosted NCAA matches in the Ferrell Center. Ever comfortable at home, BU is 9-1 when playing on their home court in NCAA matches. So far this season, the Bears have a 16-3 record at home.
Thursday marks the first program matchup between the Terriers and Bears. Wofford was a part of the Lexington Sub-Regional with Baylor in last year’s iteration of the tournament, though the Terriers fell to Kentucky in the first round, so the teams did not meet. The 2023 Wofford appearance in the tournament was a first for the program and first for any female team within Terrier Athletics.
Through 29 matches, Baylor is led by senior outside hitter Elise McGhee with 395 kills and 37 service aces. McGhee was tabbed First Team All-Big 12 on Tuesday by the conference. Named to the Second Team were graduate setter Jackie Barrett Frazier, with team-best 849 assists at 8.16 assists per set; senior libero Lauren Briseño, who leads the team in digs with 438; and junior opposite Allie Sczech, who has contributed 235 kills and 62 blocks thus far. Also leading the Bears is junior middle blocker Alicia Andrew with 93 blocks.
On the call for the ESPN+ stream on Thursday night will be Baylor volleyball alumna Hannah Lockin Sedwick alongside Mike Leslie. Live stats are available on the NCAA’s website. Final stats and full match recap can be found on BaylorBears.com at the conclusion of the match.
