Texas A&M nose tackle Samu Taumanupepe has committed to Baylor following his official visit on Thursday. He becomes the Bears' first transfer portal commit of the 2024-2025 offseason cycle.
Once Taumanupepe entered the portal, the coaching staff immediately targeted him and quickly landed the highly coveted prospect to fill a position of need.
During his redshirt freshman season, the 6-foot-3, 350-pound nose tackle recorded six tackles in limited snaps at Texas A&M.
Taumanupepe fills a major hole for the Bears, as the position has been in flux since Apu Ika's departure to the NFL following the 2022 season. Senior nose tackle Elinus Noel III anchored the position this year but is out of eligibility. Taumanupepe gives the staff a chance to solidify this position for this season and future years.
Out of Atascocita High School, the three-star recruit in the 2023 class held offers from Miami, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Kansas and Houston, among others.
Taumanupepe has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
