DALLAS – Baylor football redshirt junior Josh Cameron has been named a Second-Team All-American as a punt returner by the Football Writers Association of America, as announced Tuesday.

One of the nation’s most elite return men, Cameron led the Big 12 and ranked fourth nationally with 290 total punt return yards in 2024. He averaged 20.7 yards per return, highlighted by a career-best 73-yard return at Texas Tech to inside the 1-yard line. For his prowess in the return game, Cameron also earned a spot on the Jet Award’s midseason watch list, which recognizes the nation’s most outstanding return specialist.

Cameron returned 14 punts on the year, with nine attempts going for at least 14 yards and seven returns eclipsing 20 yards. All of his returns came within the first nine games of the season, as opponents began to punt away from the dynamic playmaker in the final quarter of the year.

In the midst of a breakout year as a wide receiver, Cameron led the Bears with 44 receptions, 643 yards and nine touchdowns, the most by a Bear since Tyquan Thornton caught 10 in 2021.

A native of Cedar Park, Texas, Cameron was named a First-Team All-Big 12 return specialist in a poll of the league’s head coaches and also received votes for the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Year. Furthermore, he garnered honorable mention All-Big 12 distinction as a receiver. Additionally, Cameron was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2024 Burlsworth Trophy, which recognizes the nation’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.

Cameron is the 26th FWAA All-America selection in program history, and first since Jalen Pitre (DB, First Team) and Jacob Gall (C, Second Team) were honored in 2021. Cameron is the first Baylor return man to be recognized as an All-American by the FWAA in program history, joining Trestan Ebner’s three honors in 2020 (AFCA, Sporting News, Walter Camp) as the only Bears all-time to earn All-America status as returners.
