Oregon EDGE Emar'rion Winston Commits to Baylor

Oregon EDGE Emar’rion Winston has committed to Baylor following his official visit. He becomes the second EDGE to commit to the Bears via the transfer portal, joining Tulane transfer Matthew Fobbs-White.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound prospect posted 27 tackles, one for loss, two pass breakups and 17 quarterback hurries over 27 games at Oregon.

This past season, he moved all around the defensive line after being used purely as an EDGE in 2023. The move likely hurt his overall production, but he was expected to play a key role at Oregon’s EDGE position this upcoming season. Instead, he decided to enter the transfer portal.

Winston was a four-star prospect and the No. 3 ranked recruit out of Oregon in the 2022 class.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

How many openings do we have left? This is 11 and we had 10 transfer out correct? I thought there was a lineman from UW in the portal we were recruiting as well.

Powerful football programs cannot stockpile the best players as backups because they can transfer, get paid, AND be a starter at a competent contender.

Paying players is the key.

BMD's will pay NIL for stars who start, but not so much just to keep a high-dollar inventory. Maybe for an Arch Manning, but not for a full roster of backups.

I've always understood it to mean an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense that is typically rushing the passer
