Baylor Volleyball Signs Mid-Year Transfer McCurdy
WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball head coach Ryan McGuyre has announced the addition of Mary Jane “MJ” McCurdy to the 2025 squad, revealed Tuesday.
McCurdy, an outside hitter, spent her freshman season with Texas State in the Sun Belt Conference. She will join the Bears in January as a mid-year transfer.
“Excited to have MJ joining the Baylor Bears,” said McGuyre. “She is an explosive outside and a perfect fit for Baylor. She is a natural leader with strong determination and trusts the Lord. We are glad she is coming this spring and can start training immediately.”
The Frisco, Texas, native played in 108 of the Bobcats 109 sets in her freshman campaign where she tallied 326 kills while swinging .227 (326-129-868). She accumulated 31 aces, 244 digs and 47 blocks as well, all while collecting 383.0 points which was the second most of any Bobcat.
McCurdy had 17 matches with double-digit kills, including a career-high 21 against Coastal Carolina (11/8) where she also had 15 digs, good for one of six double-doubles on the season. The freshman had nine matches with double-digit digs, the most coming against South Alabama where she dug 22 balls (10/12).
Over the course of Texas State’s 31 matches, McCurdy averaged 3.02 kills per set along with 2.26 digs per set. Her 3.55 points per set was good for second-most on the team.
McCurdy helped the Bobcats to a 22-9 record overall with a 13-3 record in the Sun Belt. TXST won the Sun Belt Championship, defeating all three of its opponents in 3-0 sweeps for the title, extending its win streak to 11. McCurdy and the Bobcats faced seventh regional seed Missouri in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in Dallas.
