Bullpen Dominates as Baylor Takes Down Tarleton on Tuesday, 7-2
WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (9-3) took down Tarleton (4-9) and earned a 7-2 victory on a windy Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark.
The Bears out-hit the Texans, 10-to-4, and three different Baylor batters — center fielder Ty Johnson (Sr.), second baseman Pearson Riebock (Fr.) and third baseman Hunter Teplanszky (Sr.) — had multi-hit performances.
Relievers Andrew Petrowski (RSr.), Stefan Stahl (Jr.), Patrick Hail (6Sr.), Camden Clewett (Fr.) and Grayson Murry (Jr.) combined for 6.2 scoreless innings. The bullpen collected eight strikeouts and didn’t issue a single walk.
Left-handed pitcher Carson Bailey (Fr.) started his third game of the season and struggled with command early. He walked the leadoff batter and later surrendered a two-out, two-run single to give Tarleton a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Bailey closed the contest after tossing 2.1 innings and struck out three on 44 pitches; he surrendered two hits, two walks and two earned runs. The freshman southpaw has 16 strikeouts compared to three walks this spring.
Baylor got on the board in the third inning when Wesley Jordan (Sr.) flew an RBI sacrifice fly into right field. Later in the frame, with the bases juiced and two outs, Johnson smoked a two-run single into right field to give BU a 3-2 lead.
The Bears broke the game open with three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Riebock and an RBI single from Teplanszky. Despite starting just half of the games this spring, Riebock is tied for second on the team with four doubles.
Baylor added another run in the seventh inning when Jordan plated a run on a single into left field; he has a team-high 14 RBIs.
