SAN MARCOS, Texas – Baylor baseball (15-5) cruised to a dominant 19-3 run-rule victory over Texas State (8-12) in seven innings on Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark, marking the largest margin of victory in head coach Mitch Thompson’s three-year tenure.

The Bears exploded for a 10-run sixth inning, and three players — Enzo Apodaca (RSr.), Wesley Jordan (Sr.) and Gavin Brzozowski (RSo.) — hit home runs in the contest.

Apodaca went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a solo shot, as well as collecting four RBIs and scoring a career-high five runs. Center fielder Ty Johnson (Sr.) earned his seventh multi-hit performance of the season and plated a career-high four RBIs.

“You gotta like a 19-3 road win; we’ll take it.,” Thompson told ESPN Central Texas post-game. “There’s lots to be happy about tonight.”

Baylor’s batting order drew a season-high 11 walks, totaled 11 hits and crushed three home runs in the win. Six different arms saw time on the mound for the Bears and limited Texas State to three runs, two walks and seven hits across seven innings.

“I liked the fact that we played really good defense,” Thompson said. “I liked that we continued to throw a lot of different guys out there on the mound, and virtually every guy did a nice job. I like the fact that we took 14 walks or hit batters from them on offense. We had some at-bats that were fantastic.”

After a three-run bottom of the first inning for the Bobcats, Baylor scored 18 unanswered runs, including a three-spot in the third and fifth innings, highlighted by back-to-back bombs from Apodaca and Jordan in the fifth.

The Bears batted around nearly twice in the 10-run sixth inning, and four different players drew a free pass in the frame. Johnson, Apodaca, shortstop Tyriq Kemp (Sr.) and third baseman Pearson Riebock (Fr.) had run-scoring hits in the inning. Riebock finished the contest 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple.

Left-handed pitcher Caleb Jameson (RSo.) started on the mound Tuesday and earned his first win of the season while fanning four Bobcats. Relievers Andrew Petrowski (RSr.), Camden Clewett (Fr.), Stefan Stahl (Jr.), Patrick Hail (RSr.) and Caleb Bunch (Sr.) each tossed a scoreless inning.
