Baylor Softball’s Shaylon Govan Named Big 12 Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas – Baylor softball senior infielder Shaylon Govan has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Govan hit .571 in BU’s three-game conference series sweep over Houston last weekend. She totaled four hits while drawing four walks, with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .727 on base percentage.
She hit a solo shot in the Bears’ series finale for her sixth long ball of the season. She currently boasts an 18-game on-base streak and is four walks away from tying a Baylor career record in walks.
Govan currently leads the Big 12 in conference games in walks (34) and on base percentage (.602). The infielder is also ranked fifth nationally in on-base percentage and ninth in walks per game. She contributed to three double plays the Bears made over the weekend.
This marks Baylor’s first weekly conference award of the season and Govan’s second Big 12 Player of the Week award of her career.
Govan is joined by Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady as this week’s Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honoree.
