Baylor Defensive Lineman Brendan Bett Enters Transfer Portal

April 24, 2025

Baylor redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Brendan Bett has entered the transfer portal, SicEm365 has learned.

He was expected to be a breakout player for the Bears after a strong spring and help anchor the defensive front going into the 2025 season.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect missed all of last season due to being ruled academically ineligible. As a true freshman, he played in 10 games and finished with nine tackles, one sack and two pass breakups.

He was a consensus three-star prospect in the 2023 class. He chose Baylor over offers from SMU, Colorado and Houston, among others.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Haven't we picked up some DL over the months? I had forgotten about the guy TDH.

Wonder what kind of bag BU wasn't willing to match for a depth piece?

Seems like he just didn't quite develop to be the dawg they hoped he could be. Probably not the best fit for this team right now, but still can be a productive player.

I don't pay too much attention to "college sports" anymore, but is this velocity of players leaving unique to Baylor or just the norm now?

Until this I hadn't heard of a player being academically ineligible since about 2005. There used to be a list of players every semester, even at schools like Texas. I thought the myth of the student athlete had been completed dispelled. If true this actually makes me admire the football program even more.

I live in SEC country, and I see it happening in droves. Georgia, in particular, has lost a ton of people. Interestingly, they don't rely on the portal too much themselves. They prefer to develop from within. Unfortunately, anyone who isn't starting for them can get a lot of money somewhere else.. the SEC actually has a conference rule that one team cannot poach from another during the spring portal season. Not sure if the big 12 has that or not, but I don't think they do.

Truly a Dumb Azz for sure if you can't stay eligible in today's colleges with all the pampering they provide. Good riddance.

well if he didn't play last season bc of academics, who's to say the same wouldn't happen this season? even if Aranda wanted him to stay, seems like he would've been a risk.

It is at Baylor.

Seems like majority of players are leaving bc they aren't going to be playing much. The 365 staff have reported the majority of the football guys leaving were walk-ons, plus some surprises. Maybe this one is a surprise, but maybe he just couldn't get his act together academically. Basketball guys, apart from Rob, weren't going to come off the bench often and thus weren't going to receive much NIL. Don't want that after every season, ofc, but changes had to be made. For those reasons, I don't think it's all that shocking?

Anyway we can get him out of the portal, not much in there for DL?

It is possible that he could return. Doesn't happen that often, though. And it would be up to the team to have him back or not.
