Tennessee Tech cornerback Caldra Williford has committed to Baylor via the transfer portal. He becomes Baylor’s second transfer portal addition at the cornerback position this offseason, joining Ohio State transfer Calvin Simpson-Hunt.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect has totaled 88 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and 12 pass breakups across the past two seasons.

As a redshirt sophomore at Tennessee Tech has finished with a 79.7 defensive grade and an 81.0 coverage grade, per Pro Football Focus.

The coaching staff under new cornerback coach Paul Gonzales was hunting the transfer portal for a cornerback post-spring, and they found one to help solidify the position.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Tennessee Tech sounds like a made-up school. These portal transfers are pretty underwhelming so far.

No shade to Williford… and I would love to be proven wrong. I hope he does great things at Baylor.

Mississippi Valley State sounds made up. Better tell Jerry Rice.

Kinda like East Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Tarleton State, West Texas A&M and Texas State sound to people outside Texas.

I'm guessing this guy is meant to help make up for speed deficit that was so apparent against that elite burners at LSU. It was a blessing in disguise for that to be exposed before next season. I'm guessing this is a speed guy.

Actual school. Know people with actual degrees from that actual school. 2 years of eligibility. 1 to adjust to speed of FBS ball and hopefully put on 10-15 pounds and one season to potentially be a difference maker. Tulane NT was a great pickup. We need depth and for the first time in the Aranda era I think we're going to have 2 NTs over 320. This defense does so much better having a big body eat a double team for linebackers to make plays.

Arguably our best defensive player (Keaton Thomas) came from Northeast Mississippi Community College.

There is talent to be found at all levels of college football and in all corners of the country.

Williford may or may not be a difference-maker for us. But his previous school will certainly not be the -- or even a -- determining factor in that outcome.

You have to search the high and low for talent these days. Derek Stingley Jr. from LSU is not walking through that door

My initial thought exactly.
