Blair Academy (NJ) center Ramon “Mayo” Soyoye has committed to head coach Scott Drew and Baylor. He joins Tounde Yessoufou‍ and Andre Iguodala II‍ in the 2025 recruiting class.

Standing at 6-foot-10, 235 pounds, Soyoye is not known for his scoring but had a strong senior season as a shot-blocker and rebounder.

He told Dushawn London of 247 Sports in February, “I'm an athletic hustle player who dives for loose balls and gets rebounds. I'm not really a scorer, but I can come in, set screens, and make plays for my team."

Soyoye later added, "I'm looking for a college program that develops me. It's okay if I don't go in and start right away. I can be on the bench, but I'm ready to develop my game to the college level. This whole process is new to me. This is only my fourth year playing basketball, so I'm learning everything along the way."

Soyoye is unranked but has started to gain some recruiting momentum recently, with Maryland, Texas Tech, Xavier and Villanova taking notice.

Why the Fit Looks Good

He’s a raw prospect, but his motor burns hot. Soyoye sports a 7-foot-4 wingspan and does everything Baylor asks of their post players. He sets good screens, can finish at the rim, protects the rim on defense and eats glass. He might be a redshirt candidate, but he could be a great piece for the future of Baylor basketball. He reminds me of Samson Johnson for Connecticut.

Lots of hops. Good motor in these highlights. Some beginnings of solid post-up moves. Everyday John wasn't much of a scorer either and he was invaluable. Very interesting pickup. Also, seems humble.

Like the Old Baylor with multiple bigs again.

Perfect for a 3rd center. A guy that's ready to learn and hustle his butt off at every practice. I'm assuming he can't make the Germany trip but it would be cool if he could.

Drew always gets the benefit of the doubt on assessing and developing big men with me. And this guy sounds like he will do the dirty work.

another very likely multi year post player is great. and given that he won't play much this year, some crazy rich man-baby isn't likely to come offer him $3.5M next year.

And to his credit, he worked really hard and had greatly improved his scoring. His career high of 21 points occurred in the game immediately prior to his injury. Criminal.

I like what Ramon had to say. He seems very coachable and eager to work and improve.

Looks athletic and only been playing for 4 years. Coach him up.

Agree. And I love his mindset of wanting to come in and be developed.

If he's serious about that, there's not a better coach in America to play for than Scott Drew, whose track record of developing raw post players into quality rotation pieces is dang near unmatched.

I like this addition a lot. He and Iguodala are the types of freshman I want to see more of in our program. I love developmental players.

Best thing I heard is that he realizes he's raw and he wants to be taught. Good coaches like Drew can work with that.

Welcome aboard! I know he likely won't see much time this year and may even redshirt, but it makes me feel better to know we now have a 3rd big just in case we continue our on-going bad luck with injuries.

I love the signing and we have had phenomenal success in the past with bigs like this coming in with the mindset to develop. That said, I hope we find a way to hang on to him and he doesn't leave after his year of development.

Hopefully there is a settlement and he will get some revenue sharing to keep him here. If the NIL money is still at the insane level come next year, you can bank on someone throwing a big number at him.
