Baylor Baseball Lands Impactful UTA Infielder, Cade Dodson, From Transfer Portal
Head coach Mitch Thompson and Baylor baseball have received a commitment from UTA infielder Cade Dodson out of the transfer portal.
Dodson is a rising sophomore and had a fantastic freshman season for the Mavericks in 2025 with 51 starts; he was second on the team in batting average (.324), on-base percentage (.387) and runs scored (45). Dodson led UTA in hits (69), at-bats (213) and doubles (16). He also added five home runs and was 16-for-19 in stolen base opportunities.
UTA lists Dodson as an outfielder, but he primarily played second base in his lone season with the Mavericks and logged a .963 fielding percentage.
Before UTA, Dodson starred at Gunter High School and was named the District 11-3A Hitter of the Year as a senior. Dodson’s father, Jeremy, played at Baylor from 1996 to 1998 before getting drafted by the Kansas City Royals.
The Bears will have to continue retooling a senior-heavy lineup that was led by shortstop Tyriq Kemp, outfielders Wesley Jordan and Enzo Apodaca, designated hitter Hunter Simmons and catcher Cortlan Castle. Dodson joins Odessa College infielder Robert De La Garza as the two impactful additions Baylor has made so far this offseason.
