Baylor Baseball: 2025 Offseason Thread

Baylor baseball and head coach Mitch Thompson have received a commitment from UTA first baseman Tyce Armstrong out of the transfer portal; he becomes the second addition from UTA this offseason, joining second baseman/outfielder Cade Dodson.

Armstrong is a rising redshirt senior and had a solid stint with the Mavericks, starting over 120 games in his four-year career. As a redshirt junior in 2025, the 6-foot-4 slugger was third on the team in batting average (.319) but led UTA in on-base percentage (.415), slugging percentage (.556), home runs (12), RBIs (46) and total bases (115). Armstrong went 4-for-6 with two extra-base hits in two games against the Bears this season. He also earned All-WAC Second-Team honors.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2024, Armstrong appeared in 47 games and batted .241 across 166 at-bats, while slugging .337 and with an on-base percentage of .337. In 2023, he made 22 starts and batted .354 across 82 at-bats. Armstrong starred at Magnolia High School before redshirting his first season at UTA.

The Bears will have to continue retooling a senior-heavy lineup that was led by shortstop Tyriq Kemp, outfielders Wesley Jordan and Enzo Apodaca, designated hitter Hunter Simmons and catcher Cortlan Castle. Armstrong joins Odessa College infielder Robert De La Garza and Dodson as the impactful additions Baylor has made so far this offseason.
