Here are 10 rapid reactions in response to Baylor’s season-opening loss against Auburn from Will Boles.
1. Kole Wilson is GOOD!
- The Texas State transfer is incredibly fast. Whether it’s in the passing game or on kick returns, he can MOVE. Wilson finished with 134 receiving yards and eight catches.
2. Boys Up Front Need Work
- Prayers up for Jackie Marshall, who left the game with a lower leg injury in the first quarter and didn’t return. The Baylor linemen struggled on both sides of the ball tonight. Got to get more push!
3. Linebackers Left a Lot to Be Desired
- Would love to see more from Dave Aranda’s signature position group, but Keaton Thomas specifically did a great job, per usual, with 15 tackles.
4. Michael Trigg
- What he wants, when he wants. If you weren’t expecting him to have a good game, you’d have been in the minority. Michael Trigg was open just about every play and made a huge impact with 99 yards and a touchdown.
5. Thankful for Sawyer Robertson.
- He didn’t have his best game, but he still gave Baylor a lot (419 yards, 3 TDs). Sawyer Robertson seemed to be a bit shaky and was seen limping on the broadcast; hopefully, he’s okay. Would love to see him open up his run game soon.
6. Jackson Arnold’s Legs Killed Baylor
- Jackson Arnold ran all over Baylor (137 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs). Eerily similar to Chandler Morris in 2021, the Bears just couldn’t stop him. Would’ve loved to have seen a spy or any other attempt to slow him down.
7. The Drone Show was Cool!
- It was nice looking out at the drones over the Brazos River. Not sure they were Baylor green, though.
8. WR Room Was Great
- There are lots of studs in the group. Tonight, the Texas State duo of Kole Wilson and Ashtyn Hawkins played exceptionally well. As a whole, those guys will win a lot of games for Baylor this year.
9. Defense Did Well in Coverage When Tested
- Auburn’s receivers are very good. The secondary did a great job tonight in coverage. That being said, Auburn did more than make up for it on the run.
10. Baylor Still Has CFP Dreams
- Realistically, tonight didn’t affect Baylor’s playoff odds too much. If this team can get the run moving and clean things up a bit defensively, they definitely have the squad to get into the CFP.
