IRVING, Texas – Baylor soccer midfielder Olivia Hess has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Hess came up big for the Bears in a 2-0 win over then-No. 17 Mississippi State on Thursday, scoring the game-winner in the fourth minute from the Banks of the Brazos.

In 290 minutes of action, Hess has tallied six shots, four of them on goal.

The award is Baylor’s 65th total weekly soccer honor from the Big 12 and the 18th freshman-specific award since the category was added before the 2000 season.

Hess shares the freshman honor with Mary Sola (Kansas). Morgan Brown (TCU) was recognized as Offensive Player of the Week, Mary Blackburn (Texas Tech) earned Defensive Player of the Week and Bailey Herfurth (West Virginia) claimed Goalkeeper of the Week.

Baylor splits its schedule this weekend, hosting Texas on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to San Marcos to face Texas State on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
