Will Boles drops 10 notes from Baylor’s 48-45 overtime win over No. 17 SMU!
- The secondary still has work to do. On the first play of the game, the Bears dropped an easy interception that turned into a touchdown for SMU. Almost every time Kevin Jennings escaped the pocket, he connected with a wide-open receiver — Baylor’s secondary simply can’t afford mistakes like that.
- Josh Cameron delivers. After a quiet outing against Auburn, Cameron burst back to life today. Whenever he touched the ball, he fought for yards like a warrior. SMU struggled to bring him down, and he responded with nine catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
- Baylor’s defensive line is improving. The defensive front stepped up its game, putting pressure on Kevin Jennings throughout. Jackie Marshall’s return was noticeable — the Bears need him healthy to keep this momentum.
- The offensive line must step up. Once again, Baylor’s run game was limited. Even on positive plays, Bryson Washington had to battle for every inch. If the Bears want to establish the run this season, the O-line needs to fight harder up front.
- The Bears need faster starts. Baylor didn’t score until the second quarter, forcing them to play catch-up again. For Jake Spavital’s offense to function at its peak, the Bears need to get on the board early and set the tone.
- Injuries continue to hurt the Bears. Health is wealth, and Baylor’s been drained. Michael Trigg and Coleton Price both missed significant time today. It’s tough to compete when key starters are sidelined.
- Sawyer Robertson is on fire. 440 yards and 4 touchdowns with zero interceptions. Robertson sliced through defenses all game, and his mobility was on full display. He scrambled, extended plays with his legs and delivered when it mattered.
- Dave Aranda needs to trust his kickers. For the second week in a row, Baylor passed on field-goal opportunities, even when well within range. Those extra points could swing tight games down the stretch.
- Jacob Redding continues to impress. With five tackles (all solo) and a clutch interception in the SMU end zone, Redding played a standout game, and Baylor needs him to keep delivering, especially with injuries piling up in the secondary.
- Baylor fans showed up in Dallas. The restoration of “B-U” chants and waves of “Sic ’em Bears” could be heard all over the stadium. Dallas felt like home. THANK YOU, BAYLOR NATION!
