Baylor Coaches Blown Out by Arizona, 41-17
TUCSON, Ariz. – Baylor’s (5-6, 3-5) was blown out 41-17 by Arizona (8-3, 5-3) on Saturday afternoon at Arizona Stadium.
The Bears were outscored in the second half, 27-0, and were out-gained by Arizona, 355-to-343 in total yardage, and lost the turnover battle, 3-to-1.
Quarterback Sawyer Robertson threw for 162 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions on 22-of-32 passing. Wide receiver Josh Cameron caught six passes for 71 yards.
Baylor’s offense scored on its first two possessions. Robertson bounced back from a bad performance last week and looked good early, both through the air and on the ground, as he grinded out 12 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
The defense, however, looked shaky early, giving up two possessions on Arizona’s first two drives. Baylor couldn’t contain wide receiver Kris Hutson, who hauled in seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
It looked like Arizona was about to double-up with scores before and after halftime, but Fifita threw his first interception since Oct. 11 after a ball deflected off the hands of wide receiver Tre Spivey and into safety DJ Coleman’s arms.
The Bears took advantage of the miscue and added a 48-yard field goal from Hawkins to take a 17-14 lead going into halftime.
The Wildcats stormed down the field to open the third quarter, capped off by a one-yard touchdown from running back Kedrick Reescano.
After Arizona took a 21-17 lead, both defenses settled in and neither team scored for the rest of the third quarter.
Baylor looked to regain the lead on fourth and short inside the red zone, but Robertson threw an interception in the end zone, his 10th of the season.
The Bears collapsed in the fourth quarter and were outscored, 26-0
The Bears will return to Waco to close out the season against the Houston Cougars on Saturday, Nov. 29. The game time and channel are yet to be determined.
