WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (23-21) broke out of its six-game losing streak with a 6-2 midweek win over UT-Arlington (16-26) in a lightning-shortened contest on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark.

First baseman Tyce Armstrong (RSr.) tallied his fifth multi-homer game of the season, and his 18 home runs on the season are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history.

Catcher JJ Kennett (Jr.) continued his hot streak at the plate, as he went 3-for-3 and scored two runs. The Bears out-hit the Mavericks in the victory, 11-to-5, and went 5-for-16 with runners on.

The Bears got the scoring started early in the bottom of the second inning when left fielder Dylan Perez (Fr.) poked a bases-loaded, two-run single up the middle.

Right-handed pitcher Caldwell McFaddin (Fr.) made his second consecutive midweek start for the Bears and surrendered three hits and two earned runs across two frames on 37 pitches; McFaddin’s ERA sits at 4:50 on the season.

Armstrong led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run, and the Bears added two more runs via a Kennett RBI single and an RBI ground out from second baseman Pearson Riebock (So.), putting Baylor ahead, 5-2.

Four arms out of the BU bullpen — Charlie Atkinson (Jr.), Cade Hansen (Sr.), Brayden Bergman (RFr.) and Luke McLeod (Fr.) — each tossed a scoreless frame for the Bears and combined for five punchouts, as neither Atkinson nor Bergman allowed a base knock.

In the bottom of the sixth, Armstrong launched his second home run of the night, 417 feet to straightaway center field over the batter’s eye; he leads the club in home runs (18) and runs batted in (50).

Shortly after Armstrong touched home plate, the game went into a lightning delay and was eventually called once play didn’t resume.

Final (6 Innings): Baylor 6, UT-Arlington 2

W Charlie Atkinson (2-0) L: Landon Murphy (0-1) S: Luke McLeod (1)

POTG: Tyce Armstrong (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 HR)

9 conference games left.
3 v Tech (below us in standings)
3 v UCF (tied for second)
3 v Utah (we are in a three way tie for last tournament spot; one of those three wont make it; since we lost to KSt and Utah didn't, that's us if we stay tied)

9-0 would be awesome
7-2 really nice
6-3 probably the floor to make the conference tournament

Kansas State was a non conference game. Houston and Tech are the two least likely to make it.

I thought we played them a three game series too, but I was wrong.

We're in 9th place and pulling away from 11th. We can pass BYU and move to 8th with a win today. We definitely can't get swept next weekend against our best remaining opponent.

The better your seeding, the easier your route in the tournament. But the top 12 teams go.
