Baylor Soccer moved up five spots to No. 12 in this week’s IWSOC Coaches Poll in Partnership with United Soccer Coaches. The Bears of Betty Lou were No. 17 heading into last week, when they beat Marquette 1-0 at home before defeating Oral Roberts 2-1 on the road.
This is Baylor’s second-highest ranking of both the year and the Michelle Lenard era. The record high is No. 6, set in the first poll of this season.
Baylor initially dropped from No. 6 after their lone loss of the campaign — a 3-1 loss to a Texas State team that is now ranked No. 18. The Bears have been clawing back since with five straight wins over three weeks and stops at No. 22, No. 17 and now No. 12 in the rankings.
The Bears are now set to open Big 12 conference play by visiting the highest-ranked team in the league: No. 9 West Virginia. That game kicks off on Friday at 6 p.m. Central Time on ESPN+.
The other Big 12 teams in the poll were No. 15 Colorado, No. 20 TCU, No. 23 BYU and No. 25 UCF. Texas Tech received a single vote as well in the receiving votes section.
The Bears play at Colorado on October 8th, host TCU on October 16th and visit Texas Tech on October 30th. They avoid playing BYU and UCF in the regular season this year.
