Bradford, Langeliers Named Collegiate Baseball All-Americans

WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball sophomores pitcher Cody Bradford (third team) and Shea Langeliers (second team) were named All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday. The duo gives BU its first seasons with two straight All-America selections since 2000-01.

Last year, Troy Montemayor was Baylor’s first All-American since 2012. Now, the back-to-back years with All-Americans are a first since Zane Carlson and Chad Hawkins in 2000 and Kelly Shoppach in 2001.

Overall, Bradford and Langeliers are the 49th and 50th All-American choices in program history and the 12th and 13th by Collegiate Baseball.

Bradford adds to his prosperous 2018 campaign as he has already been named 2018 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, All-Big 12 first team, Big 12 Championship Co-Most Outstanding Player, Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District. Through 13 starts, the Aledo, Texas, native has a career-low 2.38 ERA with a career-high seven wins (7-5), two complete game shutouts, 90.2 innings pitched and 86 strikeouts.

Bradford's career-high 11 strikeouts vs. Oklahoma on May 23 were the most for a Baylor pitcher in the Big 12 Championship since Kendal Volz had 13 vs. Oklahoma on May 26, 2007 (tournament record), the most since Josh Turley did same vs. Memphis on March 11, 2012 and the most in the Big 12 Championship since West Virginia's Ross Vance had 12 in 2016.

Bradford's three games this season with 10 or more strikeouts are the most since Shawn Tolleson had three in 2010. He also tied a career-high nine innings pitched for the second straight game and second straight shutout on April 27 at Kansas State (April 20 vs. TCU) -- Baylor's first player in program history to throw back-to-back complete game shutouts. He's the first BU player to pitch back-to-back complete games since Jason Jennings in 1999 (at Iowa State, May 14, 1999; vs. Missouri, May 19, 1999). His one-hitter on April 20 vs. TCU was BU's first since Logan Verrett in 2011 (March 11 vs. Louisiana Tech).

Langeliers, who was a Freshman All-American last season, was a 2018 preseason All-American and was named All-Big 12 first team, Big 12 Championship Co-Most Outstanding Player and Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team. Through 55 games, the Keller, Texas, native is hitting .247 with a career-high 46 runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 34 walks, four steals and 43 RBI. Additionally, he’s thrown out 23 of 33 base stealers on the season.

Langeliers has back-to-back 10-homer seasons for the first time for Baylor since Aaron Miller in 2008 (12) and 2009 (12). He also had the walk-off hit in the 11th inning to win the program’s first Big 12 Championship title on May 27 vs. TCU.
