One of the most anticipated returns to the Baylor football field, wide receiver Chris Platt is gearing up for his comeback senior year. After a torn ACL against Oklahoma, Platt was forced to sit out the remainder of the 2017 season, only playing in four games.

However, in those four games, Platt posted promising numbers and showed his value. He caught 16 passes for a total of 401 yards and 5 touchdowns. In the game at Duke alone, Platt caught 4 passes for 148 yards with two score and, against OU before his injury, he caught 5 passes for 93 yards including a 72-yard TD grab. In those four games, Platt also became the 35th WR in Baylor’s history to tally 1,000 career receiving yards. He currently ranks 33rd.

Right after the news about his injury was released, head coach Matt Rhule and the other members of the wide receiver family rallied around Platt.

“I don’t know if you can replace Chris’ big time, big capabilities,” Coach Rhule said in a post-practice interview the week following the injury. “Obviously they [other WRs] care a great deal about him so they hurt for him.”

If the first four games of the 2017 season were any indication, Platt is set to be a huge key to Baylor’s offense this year. It depends on how he reintegrates himself into the team. He is now cleared for all activities and has been working out and practicing with the team.

Coming out of high school, Platt was ranked as the No. 294 overall national prospect on the ESPN300, the No. 44 wide receiver by ESPN, and the No. 34 overall prospect in Texas.

Platt is from Willis, Texas and is majoring in Health, Kinesiology, and Leisure Studies.

Senior Season Expectations

Colt Barber: Platt is primed for a big year playing with an extremely talented receiver group around him. His speed to take the top off the defense fits in nicely with Denzel Mims and Jalen Hurd as larger receivers. Charlie Brewer's arm strength won't compliment Platt's speed as naturally as Zach Smith, but Platt doesn't always need a lot of room to make things happen. Platt enters his senior season with just over 1,100 career receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He has a shot at passing 2,000 career yards if his knee stays healthy.
