A fifth-year senior contributor as a wide receiver and a National Honor Society member, Trevor White is coming up on the one-year anniversary of earning his scholarship. While he isn’t necessarily rewriting the record books, White’s production has steadily increased each season, especially since he got so much playing time last year in lieu of injuries to his fellow receivers.

Last season, White played all 12 games, caught his first 4 career passes for 28 yards, and leading the Bears in kick returns with 14 for 291 yards on the season.

As a sophomore in 2016, he saw action in 4 games with 4 punt returns for 29 yards. White’s season long return of 13 yards came against Kansas. He was also selected to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for Spring 2017.

White saw his first action as a Bear as a redshirt freshman in the 2015 season in the game against Rice. In high school, he was a four-year letter winner in football and lettered in track in 2014.

What some might say White lacks in experience or production, he makes up for in leadership. Before the Kansas game last season, White met with the press for the first time and only referred to himself when stating what he thought he could offer the team as a whole.

“Every time we go out there it’s an opportunity to score a touchdown,” White said when asked about his kickoff returns. “I love all the guys blocking and I think that’s a great way to help the team out – being back there and trying to run one back.”

Around the same time White was awarded his scholarship, he was also unanimously voted into a single digit jersey by the rest of his team. Coach Rhule brought the single digit jersey tradition with him from Temple; it symbolizes that the wearer is a leader in every sense of the word on and off the field.

“[When White wasn’t on scholarship] he’d work for nutrition and make peanut butter and jellies for his teammates,” said Coach Rhule in the presser after the Kansas win. “It was a pleasure to put him on scholarship. He’s earned every second of it.”

White is from Arlington, Texas, and has completed his undergraduate degree in Public Health in May 2018. He also served on the Brazil mission trip during summer 2017.

Antonia’s Thoughts: It is no surprise to me that Trevor White was unanimously voted into a single digit jersey last season. He will probably end up there again. Everything about White’s off-field presence screams “humble leader” to me. In all the interviews of his that I’ve watched and listened to he rarely ever references himself; it’s always “we” or “us” or “the team”. He is always talking about ways to better himself in order to further improve the team.

In addition, White has skill. I would love to see him get back on kick off or punt returns and make some big plays for us in that area. With how the talent is stacked at wide receiver, I don’t anticipate White getting as much time in that position. I do hope with all the additions (Jalen Hurd and a healthy Chris Platt) as well as returning playmakers (Mims, Atkinson and Stricklin to name a few) that the receivers won’t be as stressed as they were last year and can cycle through more frequently.
