Walk me through the last 2:35 of the first half and why play calling was terrible - with specifics. Seems to me that job number one was not to give Tech the ball back. If we used timeouts earlier and didn't pick up a first down - then Tech would have had plenty of time to try to score. If we had been successful in getting more first downs then we had more than enough time with 2 timeouts to press things downfield more. As it was, Tech screwed up by not calling timeout with 19 seconds left and allowed us to throw a hail mary on the last play. While the execution was terrible, the call was exactly right. Had Kliff called timeout, we would have punted and not had a shot - albeit a small one - to throw it in the end zone. Seems like I remember that very strategy working out for Tech against us before.Timbear said:
Since Rhule is always the one in the O huddle during time-outs , it's safe to say that he is the de-facto OC. What we'll get as far as play calling is probably somewhere between the last 2:35 with 2 time-outs to end the first half against TT which was terrible, and the 2nd half against TT which turned out very good. I also think that playing Lovett and Ebner was a big key to victory
Since Jeff Nixon is calling plays from the booth, it'd be pretty damn hard for him to make it down to field level to lead the huddle on every timeout, wouldn't it?Timbear said:

That's true Mitch, but players and Rhule himself, have implied and outright said that Rhule controls the O. Hey, if that wins, great.
I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen any such quotes from anyone, and I try to pay pretty close attention to this stuff.Brian Ethridge said:Where is this?Timbear said:

Rhule has said in previous post game that a weird play that didnt work was on him, he called itBrian Ethridge said:Where is this?Timbear said:

Calling a play and controlling the offense are two different things.Gruvin said:Rhule has said in previous post game that a weird play that didnt work was on him, he called itBrian Ethridge said:Where is this?Timbear said:

The fake field goal against OSU was a great call, just poorly executed. Galitz had two open receivers to throw to -- one for the first down and one for the TD -- and he missed the deep option by a mile. That happens.Stefano DiMera said:
Yeah... that was the fake field goal earlier this year that was a bad bad decision.

The one that was a bad call that I remember Rhule owning up to was the reverse pass against Kansas State that resulted in the interception. That was an unnecessary risk at a time we were moving the ball well without trickery.

The 3rd down play at the end of the first half before the Hail Mary attempt was going to be a touchdown. The right guard didn't pick up the blitz. If he had, Brewer connects with Hurd because he left his defender falling on a double move.
Are we sure Nixon is in the booth? Could have swore I saw him won the sideline during tech game.

In quite a few of the games the last two years. (Second half of TCU this year). Rhule has taken over offensive play calling.
